I guess you are right. A while(1){} occasionally peaks only 80% CPU of 
my single processor system. The system is still responsive enough.
But is the vanilla 2.6 kernel truly pre-emptible? I remember reading 
about a PREEMPT_RT patch to make the kernel pre-emptible.
