My personal take is to go with it. If the kitty gets wiped out, next

Another member of the group (who shall remain nameless unless s/he
him/herself decides to make the offer public) has offered to foot the
whole Rs. 2500, but IMO asking one member to pay the whole amount is a
bit mean. Dear X, your offer is accepted but only if the Group
decides as a whole that we don't want to give the money out of the
kitty, and even then only to the extent that we cannot make up the
amount through the members who are willing to donate.
