Linux can coexist very peacefully with Win98, WinXP and WIn 2k (unless Murphy's Laws intervene). The problem is not these OS but the NT file system. The GNU parted and FIPS cannot repartition NTFS. You will have to use Partition Magic to repartition the drive and then install Linux.
