If that is the real reason, no wonder they are used so less. Serious
bloggers would prefer to concentrate on writing blogs than spending time
maintaining one.

Bloggers like feedback. Readers love sending publicly displayed
feedback. If your blog doesn't allow that, it is unlikely to be
popular(If you don't want your blog to be popular, why the heck are you
blogging anyway?). If you want reader's feedback, you need to accept
user input. That by itself opens a can of worms. You need spam
protection/moderation support, etc. etc. Any serious blogger would
rather take up a less stressful profession (like photo journalism in
Iraq) than spend their time writing and maintaining their blog.
