Yes, there are many such sites. I am sure people have heard of the Arduino (http://arduino.com). There is also Makezine (http://makezine.com), and Sparkfun (http://www.sparkfun.com). We have tried various things associated with these people, such as robots, and a model airplane. There could be much fun involved here for people interested in FOSS hardware. I would love to see a local SIG dedicated to such things, and branching out into open-source mobiles, Internet tablets, etc. We need some volunteers to jump-start this.
