Though you have received very good answers i would like to add that. Fedora
and Red Hat (maybe others also) have a tool called kickstart installation
which automates your installation and can be used to save your time in
installing os on 500 systems. If you are new to linux, i would recommend to
hire some good linux administrator who can help you do it easily.

It's decent configuration. However i would recommend that at least have one
computer which could be served as the server for rest 499 computers.

If you can elaborate this? But what i am able to understand is you want
something for backup and if yes ask your admin to create RAID or ask here..
