Then why don't we just use RTF for only content creation,
while keeping XML as the format in which we store the
content. IMHO if we don't have a proper structured content
system like XML or SGML we will be missing out on a lot of
tools out there. And anyway for most authors, teaching them
the basics of xml and using a decent xml authoring platform
will make them more productive. SGML has a major problem
with tool support. There are very few SGML tools that work
properly, and most of them are proprietory. And SGML has
very little available expertize. With XML being so popular,
we can find more people who know XML. I volunteer to
maintain a basic XML DTD and XSLT stylesheets for HTML and
XSL-FO output. With XSL-FO we can create PDF/PS and a lot of
other output formats with free tools. With RTF writing tools
will be difficult, and using something like RTF will only
lead us to as many document styles as there are authors.
I feel that we can have some more discussion on this. I am
very strongly against using RTF files for storing original
content.

AFAIK JPEG is free of patents. And according to the JPEG
standards group, the recent patient claims are mostly bogus.
This is my interpretation. The main advantage of jpeg is
that for photographic images, even with very minor loss, the
files can be real small. I don't know if PNG can give us
similar file size savings!

So am i in the free cd group??
