hey folks...this has always been a touchy issue. perhaps that's why
kenard was hesitant about doing a mass posting thats why i've only sent
it out to this list. (how fair that is to the rest of the innocence
mission fans out there on other lists..i don't know) but this is the list
i'm a part of , the most involved with and the smaller list of the few
i've been told. you can rationalize it either way and i've come to the
same conclusion: this is music that's been played for an audience and
captured and passed along to those people that paid for the concert and
those who could not attend due to living far away who would have
otherwise tried to have made the show. on one hand i think karen, don,
and mike would be flattered because this is their music being spread
around and enjoyed and they may be alright with this because this wasn't
a recording that they have marketed and hoped to make money
on...therefore we aren't taking away customers. also, it was a sold out
show, so they made as much as they could from their performance. on the
other hand it seems that all enjoyment should be payed back in some way.
money is always a consideration, but there are so many other ways to be
paid back that are of no monetary value. kind words and acknowledgement
being one. your talents offered being another. we could all pitch in and
donate money to one of their charity causes. i just think handing over
money to the band is not the best way to clear a conscience or to
properly thank them for their talents...however small they are, they are
just happy to see our faces at their shows. i think a donation to their
charity is something i will look into. we can look at it as a "pay it
forward"....do something good in return for someone else.anyone have any
other thoughts to add? this is a good subject...and one worthy of many
opinions. ~emily
