Yeah, you can start up in either OS X or 9. When you install OS X
(and 9.2) you will have two separate system folders. If the computer
is booted in OS X, simply go into the startup disk System Preference
panel and select OS 9 and then restart. If you are started up in OS
9.2, just restart and hold down the <X> key and it will start up in
OS X. You can also hold down a key at startup (it is either the
<COMMAND> key or the <OPTION> key (maybe someone can back me up on
this)) and the computer will show you all of the possible systems
that it detects that are bootable. You then select the one you want
and go.
