Hey, I've got a great solution for you. Take out the dead drive and replace with matsushita CDRW drive. Best upgrade I've done to my 266 imac! You'll never look back and the upgrade isn't too costly. I think the drives (new) are going on ebay for around $60. If you need help with this upgrade email me.
