Try reseting the Open firmware and reset the PRAM and see if that helps.
OPEN FIRMWARE RESET : At start-up press Command+Option/Alt + O +F at same 
time
until white text terminal shows up, then type "reset-all"   (No Spaces) . The 
computer will then reboot.
PRAM press command+Option/Alt + P + R   you will hear chime durin reboot.
Also try command+option/alt + s at bootup you will get black screeen with 
white text
at prompt type "fsck -y" (note space) this will do an extensive disk check, 
when done type reboot.
