You never answered my question about looking for the control strip in the "Control Panels (Disabled)" folder in the System Folder, is it there? As far as re-installing goes, there's generally two CDs that come with iMacs... one called "Software Install" and one called "Software restore". One will totally wipe your hard drive and return the computer to just how it was when you got it, and the other will allow you to just re-install certain specific things, without losing the other stuff you already have on the computer. Make sure you have the right one, and read all the messages the installer gives you carefully... and hit cancel if you're not sure.
