What you are suggesting won't work with many ISPs, if you connect several
computers to one Cable Modem or DSL adapter, usually only one computer will
work. The ISP will be able to tell the difference between the computers by
MAC address, or by DHCP (or is it DCHP?) client ID, and will only let one
work.

Most routers are not wireless, they just allow you to connect more than one
computer to a DSL box or Cable Modem and have it appear to the cable or
phone company that only one computer is connected.
