Yeah, right....

There is a big difference between purchasing a Mac and getting the System 9.0
Software Restore CDs that come with it and purchasing a copy of OS9.0.

The OS9.0 CD has files on it that will install the operating ststem on ANY Mac
that will run it.

It will install different files on different Macs. For instance, I just ran the
OS8.6 installer on my 6500 and it put all of the ATI stuff and all of the
television stuff on the hard drive because it recognised the 6500 ATI on-board
video and TV/Video system.

If I install the same system using the same OS9.0 CD on a 8600 or on a my
Quadra 950 with the PPC Processor Upgrade Card I might get other stuff.

The iMac Restore CD that came with your iMac has lots of stuff on it
specifically for just your DV G3 iMac. It would NOT have the resources that
your 5400 needs. Neither would your 5400 CD have the necessary resources to
install a viable system on your G3 iMac.

You need the universal real installer that will recognise any Mac that will
run the System.
