The latter. > On a related note, did Apple do the right thing to do away with floppy > drives all together, give their continued prevalence? What prevalence? I had given up on floppies YEARS before the iMac came out, they were unreliable, easily-corruptable POSs whose main job, it seemed to me, was to transport viruses to and from Kinko's. I had a 2x SCSI burner almost the day they were available, and a Zip as well (I later gave up the Zip pretty much for the same reliability issues that caused me to give up on the floppies). I'm always amazed when people are still using floppies for anything other than momentary sneaker-net purposes. Even PC manufacturers are FINALLY starting to drop the floppy as standard equipment. By 2005 I predict the floppy will ONLY be available as an add-on component or peripheral. > they did this long before I > purchased a mac, so i missed the reaction of mac users when this > happened. There is a large base of home users how had much to hue and cry about when the iMac first came out, but the introduction a year or so later of the CD-RW as standard equipment basically shut them up permanently. Most of us don't even think about floppies anymore and certainly wouldn't go back to them now that a MS Word document with a few graphics in can easily be 1.3MB all by itself! > Didn't the first imac have the option of an internal floppy > drive?
