Put it this way.  My parents just got a Pismo.  I had them order those
utilities. Same with my wife, I own personal copies.  They are beneficial to
the end user...not just a tech.  I have other utilities that you can't buy
for diagnosing Mac's but more often than not I end up using those listed
above in conjunction with Apple's internal software.

Another note from the Applecare forum (a private forum for Apple Certified
Tech's).   Apple recognizes and recommends the use of the following
utilities by Apple tech's in troubleshooting clients Mac's:

Diskwarrior
Tech Tool Pro
Macsbug
Mac Test Pro (Apple Internal software)

There is no mention of Norton.
