As you say, OS 9 users probably don't speak up as much
as they should on this list.
My feeling is what do you use your computer for?
On my clamshell I use 9.2.2. I do mostly internet
surfing, word processing, email, and manipulation of
photographs taken with two cameras a digital camera
and a 35mm. In those circumstances, 9.2.2 seems quite
stable. When my cursor freezes it is usually in
Internet Explorer. I haven't used DiskWarrior or the
like and this little Graphite clamshell just goes on
working.
On the iMac I have combination Classic/OS10 installed.
Trouble at present is that I bought a generic version
of Jaguar, not an upgrade. It was all they had at the
University computer store for the education price.
Probably wrongly, I proceeded to install it over my
original OSX and now i have a peculiar thing sitting
on the desktop. It says:
SecUpd7-18-02forv.10.1.dmg
I've intended to call AppleCare and thrash it out.
Probably my Jaguar is not up to snuff. [Gosh, here I
am a user of OS 9 posting an X problem!]
I don't use Classic on the iMac. I boot exclusively
in Jaguar and fool around from time to time trying to
unravel its mysteries (slow learner). I go to .mac
which won't let me in when I'm in OS 9, I dip into
David Pogue's book and proceed a bit now and then.
I'm easily frustrated and can take just so much
uncertainty (angst). Posters like Chas. Martin have
inspired me to try for some understanding of Jaguar
but for fast word processing I move back to the
clamshell and OS9. From this list I just found out
about the IE Scrapbook and "thanks" for that.
Most of the time I "lurk" to pick up hints from my
betters!
Grateful greetings to the good-dog for his mention of
Z-Write. I read the review in ATPM and have resolved
to get it. Its features seem useful for those times
when I try to do some creative writing.
Just a spewing into the cyberspace for what it's
worth!
