Well, two more data points:

iMac Rev.B, 512 MB
Firewire/2-USB iBook 800 Mhz
both using DHCP w/ manual address

...both machines had the update run on them last night. Both machines had permissions repaired. Both machines appear to be doing just fine. Even third party software such as X11 and The Gimp are running just fine. Canon's File Viewer ran fine last night, Photoshop worked fine this morning.

Application launching may be a little snappier (though on the iMac that's REALLY relative).

And, as can be seen by the fact that I'm able to post here, our ethernet and DSL networks are working just fine...
