Antique question

Sorry to bring up an 8.6 question. As my rev B is having problems 
with certain websites (freezing at the same place with the same 
sites), my thought is something is damaged. If I do a clean install 
of 8.5 & then re-upgrade to 8.6, do I have to do all the firmware 
installs again? I had thought maybe I was having Java issues, but I 
have used other Macs with 8.5 & 8.6 that aren't freezing. This 
happens with IE 5 & 5.1, and I have already tried completely 
stripping each from computer so no possible conflicts, and MS IE Self 
Repair doesn't help. It doesn't freeze with Netscape, but I like IE 
much better. Thanks in advance! Feel free to respond directly to my
