Playing devil's advocate, because this place is an electrician's nightmare,
along with a plumber's and the phone company's--check your modem connection.
We've gotten more line surges through the telephone line than through the
power supply! I lost 3 modems in a row until I had the phone company put a
supressor on the whole line--the one on the UPS was only catching part of
it!
