>From what I've heard, no, you can't boot from USB on the early iMacs. The basic reason I've heard is that the Mac doesn't "know" it has USB ports or what to do with them until it's read some code from the hard drive or the internal CD drive. I have heard of people connecting two hard drives at once to the iMacs internal IDE bus, one hard drive replacing the internal CD. It's not too simple though, the internal CD doesn't have a standard ribbon cable, so you need some sort of adapter. I haven't done it myself, but some people on the list probably have.
