The original CD drive won't read CDs at all. Won't boot from them, and 
won't read them once the machine is booted from the hard drive. It just 
complains that the disk is unreadable and do you want to format it.

The replacement IDE CD drive will read the CDs fine once booted from the 
hard drive, but will NOT boot from the CD when holding down C at startup 
(or Command-Option-Shift-Tab or Command-Option-Shift-Delete).

I haven't tried that yet... didn't think of that. I'll try it now and see 
what happens.

Nope, that didn't work either. Although it did sit and think about it for 
a while before it gave up and went back to booting from the hard drive.


I've given up. I just pulled the hard drive from the bondi, and swapped 
it into my graphite DV SE. I'll partition the drive there, install the 
OS, and then swap it back to the bondi.
