You must have missed my initial message on this thread. The gist of it was that I'm going to be upgrading to Panther (OS X 10.3.x) soon and I wanted to install my current version of Jaguar (OS X 10.2.8) on a partition of my FireWire hard drive as an aid to assist in helping friends and family when they call for tech support from me.
I've got OS X 10.2.6 on the DVD that came with my Flat Panel iMac to use as a starting point, but what I wanted to know was if there was any way to re-install all the updates that I've previously installed on my iMac's hard drive (through Software Update) on to the FireWire hard drive without having to download them again over dialup. The answer was essentially as you pointed out, to download them again.
However, I did learn from Marc van Gemert that in the "Update" menu of Software Update is an item called "Download Checked Items to Desktop". Using this selection allows you to save the updates to your desktop and then install them and store them for future use.
