Hi Esver,

Slow start-up could be caused by a number of things. I'll start by suggesting that you make sure that your HD is chosen as the start-up disk in the pref pane.

Thanks for your very good pointers Mary. I just bought a 250 GB external drive to offload some of the stuff. Believe me I know that my setup is slowing things down considerably. I hope that freeing up disk space will alleviate a lot of those problems. What's new is that startup delay and I'm going to check the pref pane to see if it's set up correctly.

I had ordered more RAM some time ago but my friend had bought the wrong kind for me (he supposedly had a very good price and now I know why). Since I'm using my 15" Aluminum PowerBook most of the time I'm stuck wondering if I should increase the RAM on the iMac or wait for the next greatest computer and put money toward that.

The version number was my mistake. I am in fact using 10.2.8 on the iMac (I'm going to upgrade it to 10.3 tomorrow).
