What I was refering to is the entire assembly that you slide out the back
of the iMac shell. The part the 4 cables are connected to and contains
the logic board and drives.

There are two pins on the sides, and those can easily slide onto the
wrong side of the track they go on, and although you can often still get
everything to close up correctly, the cage will be aligned wrong and it
can give you problems.

But it sounds like you checked all that already.

What you are referring to above is the CPU heatsink. If you removed that,
make sure you didn't dislodge the CPU daughter card. Also, you did take
appropriate anti-static measures before touching anything on the logic
board... RIGHT?!? If you removed the heatsink, and attempted to removed
the CPU daughter card, and discharged static from your body thru the
card, you can be pretty sure you fried the card.

No power beyond an amber light on the power button is one of the things
you may see if you have a dead CPU daughtercard. (of course, that symptom
is signs of many other things as well, so it doesn't mean for sure you
killed the card). You may have simply either knocked it loose, or if you
removed it, not reinstalled if fully.

Take it all back apart (again), make sure you are grounded (or at least
attempt to discharge all the static in your body by touching a grounded
item), then remove the CPU Heatsink, remove the CPU Daughtercard (if you
took it out previously), and then reinstall it and make sure it is seated
firmly. Then reassemble (again) and retest.
