Okay, after the discussion on Classic mode, I got thinking, and I've
decided to do social experiment. :)
So, I want to hear from everyone on here who still uses OS 9 or 8 on
machines that are capable of running OS X. If you have a machine
that won't run OS X and can't afford a new machine, please don't
answer this because your reasons are obvious enough.
Kind of a Catch 22...I didn't bother to try to afford a new computer
because I didn't WANT to use OS X. I used OS 9 for ages, while
listening for problems with X and fretting that I was missing out of
new applications I couldn't use but didn't push to change. My iMac
finally had screen problems and I bought a new G5 iMac with OS X and
that is pretty much all I use! It is great but did have a learning
curve of a couple of weeks. I have a couple applications that still
need OS 9 (Mastercook and Print Explosion come to mind quickly) but
certainly don't use them daily like I might if they were OS X
compatible.
But, if you have a machine that can run OS X but choose not to, or
if you could easily afford a new machine that can run OS X but
choose not to, I want to hear your reasons why. As a computer geek,
I am really curious as to why anyone would use OS 8/9 when there is
a much better OS available for a reasonable price. If you think OS
9 is better, I want to know your reasons. Also, if you are still
using Classic a lot in OS X, please give me those reasons as well.
I don't use it nearly as much as I thought I would...I really figured
it would be "on" all the time, going back and forth but I just don't
have a need for it like I thought I would. If Mastercook was OS X it
would be open all the time like Fetch and GraphicConvertor are - but
I put off using it because it has to "start up OS 9"...not that is a
problem...just like having to take the trash out...I will do
that...later.
Kind of funny - it isn't how I expected it to go! :o)
