Todd Russell wants to know why people like OS 9. Between work and home
(plus my laptop), I have eight Macs around and all but one are capable
of running X. We have one Beige MT running OS 9.2.2 exclusively as a
designated label and sign-making machine. It uses an Apple Personal
Laserwriter 300 (serial printer), therefore X is not an option. I have
two upgraded B&W's (now G4's) running Tiger and Classic. I use an old
version of QuickBooks Pro (I know a new one is available for about $200
upgrade, but why?) and Quark Xpress 3 (Have you priced Quark lately?).
Also have an iMac DV 400 running 9.2.2 (games and movies for my five
year old). This will eventually run Tiger (I did have Jaguar running
on it). My first experience with X was 10.0.0 and it really sucked
bad! I was ready to go back to OS 9 when we loaded Jaguar on it and
eventually, as I got accustomed to it, I got to like X. However, X is
not, and never will be, as intuitive as OS 8 & 9. When you save stuff
in 8 & 9, you know exactly where to find them. I've been using X for a
couple of years now and am still learning the in's and out's. I do
like it, especially Tiger, but I always felt one of the main advantages
the Mac OS had over Windoze was it was very intuitive. Things work
exactly like you would expect them to. OS X gives up this advantage,
to an extent. I use Windoze at work, but I have never really taken a
shine to it, like I have with my Macs over the past twenty years (I've
still got that Mac 128 in storage somewhere. . .). Todd, if you will
go to: http://www.os9forever.com/ you will get the idea that OS 9 is
not going to go away anytime soon. I don't know if this answers your
question, but hopefully give you some insight.
