I'm looking at buying some softwear at megamacs.com OS X 10.3, plus
iLife.
These disks say "eMac Install" on them, but are adverstised on
running on
any machine that is compatible with Panther. This is for a 350mhz b/
w G3
machine, will it work okay?
Megamacs is a reputable (if small) vendor, if they say it will work
it probably will. I would STRONGLY recommend that any computer
running OS X that is that slow in terms of processing power be fitted
with as much RAM as possible and the fastest, largest hard drive you
can afford (actually two -- an external to back up the internal) to
ensure a smooth experience.
Also, can anyone outline the differences between iLife versions
'03, '04 and
'05?
Major feature changes and improvements throughout the apps, far too
numerous to list here.
This is for a 10 year old child, who is at the level of a 1st-2nd
grader.
I don't think I'd bother with iLife then. The only part such a child
would probably get a lot of use out of is iTunes, and you can have
that for free. I imagine they'd have a lot of fun watching the visual
plug-ins that come with (and are available for) iTunes and the music
you put on it.
You'll probably want to stick to mostly developmental games/
edutainment titles, most of which should run just fine in Classic and/
or OS X native. What else do you plan to do with the machine?
