It must be the turkey. I think you're thinking of the fact that one
can't run DFA ("Verify" or "Repair" a disk) on the boot volume. You
need to boot from the System CD or DVD to do that.
Actually, as of 10.4.3 you can indeed repair the boot volume from
Disk Utility. Handy.
