When I open my 100 tabs in the morning, I have become aware of the issue. I should add that I don't do it on my iMac, but on my Powerbook that I carry around. Using MenuMeters, I found out which pages were heavy on the CPU and which were not and simply deselected those that had too many (>2) moving ads. I doubled my battery time that way. A good stack of RAM is recommended though ;-)

I often open two windows each with 70-100 tabs, if I know I have the spare time during the day, so a dozen+ tabs is certainly not enough to make my Mac sweat :-)
