Daniel,

That drive is one that I have been considering. How have you found it to be in terms of ease of set, reliability, general use, etc? Do you know if it can be partitioned?

Thanks.

I have two matching LaCie 160GB Porsche drives, which I bought a while back from their refurbished sale site for $100 each.

I have had the 80 GB version of that drive.
When I got it home it would not mount. On return to the shop it mounted fine. I took it home it mounted fine for me. Some months later it stopped mounting again. tried it on another mac it worked. Tried at home it worked again. obviously I had tried re-seating all plugs and connections never could explain what was happening. This was on a 700 Mhz G4 imac. The disc gave no more trouble for over a year some times it would function perfectly as a start-up disc sometimes not. I think a firmware update cured it. On moving to 2.1 Ghz G5 imac PPC No problems at all until update 10.4.4 when the disc again refused to mount or be seen by the system. Downloaded a firmware updater from Lacie which could see the disc and claimed to be able to update it but never worked. gave up trying to fix it and waited till 10.4.5 came out. Sure enough the disc is now working fine again. Yes it can be partitioned same as any other disc at the min I have it loaded with 10.4.5 and use it as startup when I want to do maintenance on the inbuilt drive. I also have used it to carry Apple updates to friends computers who do not have broadband. I think all of the issues I had were Apple related and would recommend the disc overall. It comes with Silverlining backup software which I have never used so cannot comment.
