You will almost certainly have to upgrade both the disk and the  
memory; they originally came with just 32 megs and a 2 or 3 gig disk.

OS X up 10 version 10.3 is officially supported on them, and they can  
be updated to 10.4 though the use of XPostFacto.

If it's a very early iMac it DOES suffer from the 8Gig limit, in that  
OS X must be installed on a drive or first partion of a drive that is  
smaller than 8 GB.
