I have had a lot of trouble with my iomega 320Gb drive; when it's plugged in too long over FireWire, it makes 10.6.2 crash on my Intel iMac. I think these are just not very good quality drives, and it seems that I had more trouble since upgrading to Snow Leopard.
It sure sounds like the drive is just busted - I would contact iomega and see if they'll replace it.
