Used Pentium 4s might be a bit too slow, however depending on if you want to put money into it a used Thinkpad T60(\61), T400(401) or a Latitude E6400\6500 can be picked up for $100-$200 here with Windows 7 and such already on it, and (sorry for this) the E6400\T400 have a faster processor than the 1.83 GHz iMac. When you do get a proper work computer you can just sell off anything like these for right around what you paid, possibly a bit more.
