I'll 2nd Bruce's advice: I was caught in the old-scanner, new-OS, and was faced with the choice of either buying a new scanner or... VueScan saved the day: it is well written, has great support (via email, within 24 hours, many times much less), frequent updates, and is very flexible in its choices. IMHO, it is worth the money - go for the $80 option (lifetime support) vs. the $40 1-year support.
