I once had an eMac, it was purchased new and was stock that was meant for the educational market, it did indeed ship with a CD, not a DVD drive. So indeed you should check. If you flip the optical door toward you carefully, you will find some text, this text, if I remember correctly, does display whether the machine has a DVD or CD installed.
If you do burn a CD try burning at the slowest rate to ensure a good burn.
