I typed to fast:
"Ideally, if 7 is not IIS based..." should not
be read as "Ideally 7 _will_ be IIS based.."
I also said _option_ to run as an isapi or cgi
process.
The "they" in "of course they..." would be Ipswich:
Q: Why isn't iMail WebMail IIS based like products
X, Y , and Z.
A: Potential IIS mis-configuration
could security and comaptibility issues....
I'm not saying that's a bad argument, but many
have need to run both iMail and IIS(or apache,or ...)on the same box without
using non-standard ports. There are some relatively simple methods to
accomplish this. Specific address binding is one, a cgi/isapi layer is
another. Both would have relative advantages.
I would hope Ipswich responds to one of the most
common requests I've seen on the imail list, but we'll all know in a couple of
weeks if not sooner.

Why
do you say that? Imail doesn't even require IIS to be installed to operate
properly. I think having to install IIS is what adds security
risks!
webmaster
But you're running one of them on a
port other than 80. If iMail would bind to a specific IPs, you could
have iMail and IIS both listening on 80, and wouldn't have to mess with
redirects.
Ideally, if 7 is not IIS based, they would at
least offer the option of an
isapi or cgi interface that could be run under IIS, then all
port/address issues would be moot. Of course they could argue the
potential for IIS mis-configuration would open up security and support
issues.

how about the Imail webserver

Now ya got me worried.
I'm new to this
BUT I am running both on the same machine and so far everything seems
OK.
