Try this ...

When SQL server is initially installed, it defaults to the "Local System
Account" to autostart the service whenever the server boots up. Try to use
the W2K/NT "administrator" account to autostart the service.

I faced a similar problem when I installed IMAIL and the External DB in
different machines and I resolved it by using the above solution. I do not
know whether it can be applied if both IMAIL and SQL is in the same machine.

Unless you specifically change it on the external DB setup screen, it
defaults to using table-name = domain name (with hyphens and periods
converted to underscores).

You can use any table name you want, you just have to specify it in the
external DB setup screen.
