I just wanted to mention that I did get it to work with SQL server 7.0  What I was missing was part of the DSN.

The DSN field within iMail administrator should read  DSNNAME;UID=user;PWD=password

It works, and quite well!  Just never make the mistake that I did and forget to set the primary key or all of your records will duplicate.

Subject: Re: [imail] Using Imail 6.05 /w ODBC/Oracle 8i

If it's anything like SQL SERVER, that is exactly your problem, you cannot run an external database ( like oracle, or sql ) with imail no matter what odbc driver you use. You must have 7.0 or higher, at least that is what we discovered after banging our heads against the proverbial wall.  I hope that helps.

BTW when you do upgrade to imail 7.0 etc humankind systems table maker make it MUCH easier to upgrade your tables etc.

Subject: [imail] Using Imail 6.05 /w ODBC/Oracle 8i

Ladies and gents,

For the past few weeks i have been working on the configuration of an imail implementation that will use an oracle 8i enterprise database for transaction processing of user/password, etc...  i had the system working perfectly with ms-access and that ODBC driver, but when i installed oracle 8i, tried using both ms' odbc for oracle as well as oracle's own odbc drivers, things don't seem to work.  i have tried the stock ODBCUSER.DLL and the one from ipswitch modified for oracle, yet niether of these work.

i have manually inserted values into all of the default columns of my table "stu_fre_devry_edu", yet the Imail administrator application sees no users, nor can it add any.

ipswitch's articles on using oracle aren't descriptive enough to follow.  i am looking for assistance from someone who has setup a 6.0x imail install against an Oracle 8i database.  any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all,
