In  this  method (full clustering), you have to make sure the software
you  use  also  mirrors registries, since that's where aliases, lists,
and   domain  information  are  stored.  And  since  you're  mirroring
registries  anyway,  you  don't  have  to  use  ODBC.  As I've written
elsewhere, MSCS, DoubleTake, and Legato will all do this. Then you can
put a load balancer (F5 is my pref) in front of it all.

But  this  isn't the only way, by far. I've put in full clusters using
MSCS,  but  I  prefer the load-balanced farm. There's nothing so tough
about  it.  You  spread  your users across a couple of servers and use
Imail  Peer  Servers  for routing. The overall paradigm shift for this
model  is  cosmetic:  you  tell  your  users that their POP3 server is
mail9.yourdomain.com,  and  you  either have a gateway web portal that
redirects  the  user's  browser  based  on  login name, or just send a
customer right to their webmail at www9.yourdomain.com.
