We have had a multitude of problems with the SMTP Auth... IPswitch has
denied there was a problem.

We have almost 20,000 users and trust me it's a pain to have SMTP Auth
enabled but we have to have it.

Subject: Re: [IMail Forum] SMTP Auth Lockin Up?

We have fixed the symptom, but not the problem.

The PROBLEM is that IMAILSEC.DLL locks up
- Ipswitch insists that this is caused by the external mail programs not
being RFC compliant, which is of course total BS.

As this problem cannot be solved without Ipswitch involvement, the symptom
can be fixed by installing a new MTA.

We have installed Sendmail-8.10 with Switch-2.0.0 on a Linux box.
Cost:
$99 for switch
$0 for sendmail
$300 for a small Pentium based machine with a network card to run Linux on.
12 person hours for setup and configuration

Result:
- We run approx 2500 users with a load average of about 300 active
connections at a time. All using SMTP AUTH. NO PROBLEMS

Message for Ipswitch:
Sorry IPSWITCH, but this, of course, conclusively proves that using the same
variety of mail clients, the problem disappears when using another MTA.
-GROW UP and admit that your MTA is broken.
- Then Fix it for customers who don't have the resources, knowledge or will
to install a 3rd party software to overcome a flaw in your software.
- HOW THE HELL CAN IT BE that a free piece of software works, and your
commercial software is UNSUPPORTED. Your attitude towards this problem
makes me angry. You should be ashamed of yourself. Making customers pay
for a product which you full well know is broken. Just 'cause Microsoft does
this, doesn't mean that you can. BAD BAD BAD.

Anyone who needs SMTP AUTH and needs help with the setup of Switch, I'll
endeavour to help. (I'm keeping track of the hours, and sending IPSWITCH the
bill, attached to a lawyer) Anyone who wants to contribute to this is
welcome to. Let's not take this crap lying down. Let's make them fix it,
or pay for the fix.
