If we pay for the software and a support contract, you're damn right
we need somebody to point the finger at, that's what IPSwitch gets paid $550
Per/Support Contract for. To fix problems.

It seems quite obvious that your ISP didn't support any critical
business. What if you purchased a $140,000 Portmaster 4 equivalent from
some off-brand company, had thousands of customers on it, and BAM it stopped
working. Remember, there's no support for it, so figure it out yourself.
You have thousands of customers wanting to access the internet, but because
you didn't spend the dough to get the real equipment, you're now out
thousands of customer as there's nobody that's delivering you that new
motherboard (in this case software) that same business day to get things
back online.

It's great that this guys DLL works, but so does IMail's database,
PLUS it's supported. What if one day, oh crap! He forgot a line of code,
this thing is only going to handle 17,000 customers and all of a sudden,
stop working. The guy who wrote the DLL fell off the face of the earth (you
didn't have a support contract with him so he could care less), and you have
17,000 customers sitting there waiting for an Updated, UNSUPPORTED DLL that
nobody in the world knows where the author of it is. IPSwitch has a
web-site, phone number, support EMail support Fax, Snail Mail and other ways
of contacting them. They've been in business quite a while and their
software is pretty damn good.

To our company, something just doesn't click with that scenario. If
we wanted to spend time debugging software, we'd write our own mail system.
However we're a web-hosting company, not a software company. IPSwitch is
the software company, and we have better things to do that mess around with
some bad code. Unfortunately, IPSwitch follows Microsoft's way of
programming and we must stay with an older version until other users such as
yourself work out all the bugs of the "Latest and greatest versions".

Do you always look for someone/something to point your finger at?

What good is the default odbcuser.dll doing for you now?

I ran an ISP 100% on free software for 3 years. No warranty, and the only
support came from other users.

Now that I'm with a company using commercial software, I see things from the
other side, and it's not very pretty. In the last 6 months, I've seen more
problems with commercial software than I've seen in the 3 years I used open
source software. See, the neat thing about open source, is that if
something's broke, you can fix it. Screw waiting for some fat, overpaid
software engineer to figure out his broken code.

I'd say that you need to pull your head out, and use what works. If this
guy's dll works, then what's the complaint? If it doesn't work, then go
back to the default DLL and continue pointing your finger at Ipswitch.
