Believe it or not, there are some people who will actually set back the
system clock on their servers in order to make the trial version of IMail
last indefinitely. Imagine that!!!

Seriously, I once worked for an ISP that was so cheap that it used the trial
version of IMail as its main mail server, with the system clock set back a
year, for the entire time it was in business (which lasted a whole 8
months). I occasionally did tech support, and customers would ask me why the
headers in their messages were dated incorrectly. I could never answer that
question with a straight face.

Of course, that same ISP used the very same computer to host all of their
websites and do their accounting on. It also ran a hi-res screen saver when
not being used for video games. It had a whole 36 MB of RAM and served over
200 dialup and hosting customers. When they went under, I "repossessed" the
166 MHz box (with a 2 GB Maxtor IDE drive!), because they owed me a lot of
money. I ended up buying the REAL version of IMail afterwards, and have been
a relatively happy IMail customer ever since.

I have no idea whether IPSwitch ever fixed the "bug" that let users set back
the system clock to avoid paying for the software. I thought that it was
well worth the money though. Of course, I bought it back when it was $500
for unlimited users. :-)

Does anyone else have any "stupid IMail stories", about systems that were so
overloaded that it was a miracle they worked at all? IMail's ability to
handle heavy loads using minimal system resources is one of the things that
sold me on the product. Especially considering that it runs on a Windows
platform.
