Brian,
No, you need more than one entry in the HOSTS file, just changing one name
will not 'fix' this situation.
If the TCPIP IP tab is set to 208.178.240.4, and the DNS tab shows Host =
mail, Domain = kcweb.net, then HOSTS file should have:
127.0.0.1 localhost
208.178.240.4 mail.kcweb.net
208.178.240.4 kcweb.net
The last line is the one 'added' for IMail and your different hostname.
You should NOT have separate domains for mail.kcweb.net and kcweb.net in
IMail (one will do just fine!). With above HOSTS file, the OHN can be either
name and the Alias can be the other.
'Changed' and 'old' IP canot be removed from IMail, but you can eaisly
remove them from the registry and I would recommend that be done. I would
also recommend that you save at least, each 'domain_name' branch of the
registry before you attempt any other changes to the registry (just so you
can go back if needed). There is a circular reference in the registry,
between the IP (or $virtualXXX) key (shows 'Official' field, with the 'OHN'
as its value) and the domain_name key, which has a field named 'address'
that holds the IP (or $virtualXXX) that IMail uses for that domain. As long
as this is true, IMail will use that name and IP for the domain. If you find
a duplicate, or mid-directed value, then you should fix that and eliminate
the extra domain key.
Once you have this 'fixed' your Web MSG problem should also go away.
No, your DNS is fine, but the changes should be made to IMail as above.
