You understand that particular piece of the puzzle perfectly. Now....What
about in the manual where it says, "Once you have created a domain, NEVER
change the Top Directory"? How is this going to affect things?

Frank,
I see something mentioned here that might be the cause of what you are
seeing with the perceived local delivery problem. You say that you have 5 of
the 10 domains with the same top directory. Unless you have the same people
in these domains using one login it shouldn't be set up this way. Here is
what will happen with common top directories. Domain1 and domain2 have the
same top directory. there is a common user name in both domains that are
different people, lets say user1 for illustration. Mail comes into the
server addressed to user1@domain1. This will be delivered to the user1
folder in the common top directory. If user1@domain2 logs in he will
retrieve the messages in the user1 folder and user1@domain1 will not get it
on a subsequent login as it has already been retrieved. The common setup is
to have a different top directory for each domain. The fix for this
situation (if it needs fixing in your case) would be the following:
1) Stop the SMTPD service so nothing tries to deliver while doing this.
2) Kill any running SMTP32 processes
2) Change the offending Top Directories to unique ones
3) Restart the SMTPD service. This will start delivery again to the unique
directories.
Notes: This will only take care of new mail coming in. You will not have the
existing mail unless you copy the directory structures to the new
directories prior to restarting the SMTPD service. This might cause privacy
issues as there is the chance of copying one persons mail into the other's
box so keep this in mind.
I hope that I understood your problem and that this helps some
FYI - OHN=Official Host Name
