sure, SMTP is pure text.  Just telnet to port Imail ip.ad.re.ss:25 and go.

hint:  If you don't have Eudora Pro 4.3.1, I suggest you DL it, create an 
Eudora personality corresponding to an Imail account, check the Eudora 
on-line help file to learn how to debug, and, turn on byte-level debugging 
in Eudora.ini.  Then send mail from Eudora with SMTP AUTH.  You will have 
on your Eudora machine a byte-by-byte trace of the transaction in the 
Eudora log file.
