I am using nobody, so there's no bounce when users that are gone receive
mail from listservers. I don't want those messages tying up my server and
bandwidth, so when I get a message for them I create a new account in
Outlook for that user. I set it so that account isn't checked when doing a
full send/receive. Then when a message comes in for that user I follow the
remove instructions that virtually all of them have and send the message
using the dummy account so that it appears to have come from the original
user.

Much better from my point of view and you get rid of this filtering problem.

I also tell my users never to set up spam filters in their e-mail programs.
They let me know if they are getting spammed so I can track it down and get
it stopped at the source.

Ding Ding Ding!!!

You are exactly right. Although I always knew it, only now did the light go
on on what you are saying. I had a former user, "ff", that signed up for
and still receives a ton of mail from list servers, thus my filtering for
ff.

Thank you so much for enlightening me. Also thanks to the several other
posts that gave me valuable direction.

Is there a way to code the rule so that it only filters for a user;
[EMAIL PROTECTED]?

I've seen it mentioned before, but I'll say it again. This forum is
unmatched as an invaluable source and wealth of information...Amazing!

Thanks again

Well, what is listed in the "To:" field of the E-mail that is being deleted?

If, for example, if says "To: Our friendly customers", the message will be
deleted.

Note that the "To:" address is a very different beast than the recipients of
the E-mail. The "To:" SMTP header is often forged even by legitimate
E-mailers (such as "Undisclosed Recipient List"). Just because a user
receives an E-mail doesn't mean the "To:" header will have his/her name in
it.
