Hi -
In setting up a backup mail server to store and forward for a primary mail
server, one of the steps Ipswitch recommends is to add an entry in the HOSTS
file on the backup mail server in this format:
123.123.123.123 thedomain_name.com
I am wondering how this configuration will work if I also have a DNS record for
the domain of
@ A 123.123.123.111
(note that the IP address in the DNS record is different than the one in the
HOSTS file, because the DNS record is pointing to the IP address of a website,
while the HOSTS record is pointing to the IP address of the primary mail server)
I assume that the HOSTS file will ONLY be used by Imail, and that Imail will
check the HOSTS file before checking DNS, so the above configurations will not
conflict.
Is anyone doing this? If so, do you think I am making correct assumptions?
Thanks for your help.
Regards,
Adam
