Adam,

Actually, NT will read a HOSTS file first, before consulting DNS (if no
entry found in HOSTS). Other applications, on this computer, may get this IP
when looking up 'domain.name'. So a browser on the IMail computer will go to
.123, not .111. But, I bet if you type 'http://www.domain.name' it will find
the .111 (assuming that is in DNS). Many people put the web servers IP for
the domain, just so lazy webheads won't have to type the 'www' part in the
URL (not a practice I particularly like, IMHO).

This is not really a 'conflict' as you state, as mail routing is done via MX
records. Many have done this and I have never heard it being a 'problem'.

BTW, if you expect any other 'host names' to appear after the @ in the email
addresees, you may want to put multiple lines, with the same IP and the
other 'host names' that might be expected. Actually, it could be a single
line in the form:
1.2.3.4 domain.name mail.domain.name otherdomain.name mail.otherdomain.name
(a space a separator between each hostname, <CRLF> as terminator for each
line [just hit the enter key at each lines end])
