Declude works with existing command line scanners, since the big AV companies know
more about virus scanning at the file level than we do. The .DAT file updates are
done by the AV software that you use, and the frequency depends on the specific
software you use.
> ...tryed calling Declude.. no# what kind of support?
We try to do most of our support via E-mail, since that's the technology we're all
dealing with. That way, we can collect information better and have time to think
about responses, rather than having to say "Um, that's odd, I don't think I've heard
of that happening before" or "Can you hold on for a minute" or "I'll call you back
with an answer".
> Would I use Declude as the AV or do I also buy say SOPHOS....
You would buy the AV software, like Sophos. Most of our customers are able to buy the
AV software for $20-$30-$40 or so.
> if so what is Declude or say Mailgate doing?
Declude performs the behind-the-scene magic that gets the $20 virus scanner to do the
job of the $5,000 E-mail version of the virus scanner. It takes care of interfacing
with IMail (file locking, spool file interpretation, etc.), interfacing with the
scanner, handling the E-mail (decoding attachments, finding HTML segments, recursive
MIME segments, etc.), and other general stuff (making sure that resources aren't
depleted, exception handling, security, etc.).
